Betting Types Explained
Since we’re focusing on the Euro 2021 competition we will focus on football betting markets and what is popular among football betters.
Euro 2021 Online Betting: Bet on the game winner
The simplest and most common bets are on the outcome of a game. There are three possibilities, as there are three possible outcomes in a 90 minute football game. Either one team wins or there is a draw. This is usually abbreviated to 1 x 2.
“1” means that the home team wins the game and “2” means that the away team wins. An “x” means that the game will be a draw in regular time and there is no winner.
Sometimes, as a fan, you are not sure whether your favourite team will win, because anything is possible in football. You can protect yourself with the “double chance” bet.
If you place a pre-match bet (before kick-off) of England or Draw on the game England – Croatia in Group D, you are betting that England will either win the game or at least play a draw, or as you might also hear, Team X “does not lose”. You can place the same bet after kick-off while the game is in progress. These bets are “in-play” or “live bets”.
Euro 2021 Online Betting: Over / Under Number of Goals Market
Another very popular Euro 2021 online betting market is the number of total goals in a game. With “over and under goals” you place a bet on how many goals are scored in a game, regardless of which team scores the goals.
A standard bet is over 2.5 or under 2.5 goals. Over 2.5 goals means that at least three goals are scored for the bet to win. Under 2.5 goals means that there are less than two goals scored in the game. The over goals bet is much more popular, as you can win your bet before the end of the match and place the profit on an in-play bet in another market to get more winnings.
Euro 2021 online betting: Halftime Result and Correct Score markets
If you want better odds and higher profits, then halftime results and Correct Score markets are of interest.
Halftime Result bets are like the 1×2 market but you bet on which team will be winning once halftime arrives, or if it will be a draw.
If you want to take this one step further there are more halftime markets that allow you to bet on which team is winning and which team will score the first goal, how many goals scored, the number of goals scored, and much more.
You can also bet on the Correct Score market. Make your prediction on the final score after 90 minutes and place your bet. The odds are usually quite high and the potential returns are very enticing.
Goal Scorer markets and other outright bets
Another very popular type of online bet is the goal scorer markets. There are two markets that are most popular in regards to goal scorers and that is the Anytime Goal Scorer market and the First Goal Scorer market. It is important to note that the player needs to be a starter for the bet to count. If the potential goal scorer is not on the team sheet as a starter the bet is void and you will get your stake back.
When it comes to international tournaments like Euro 2021, it is also common to place a bet on the tournament top scorer. At the moment, Harry Kane has the shortest odds as Euro 2021 top goal scorer at 5/1.
These longer term bets that settle after the end of a tournament are outright bets. Sometimes outright bets settle before the end of the tournament if the outcome is in no doubt and there is no chance it can change.
Other popular online outright bets include the Euro 2021 Winner, and the specific Group Winners.
Welcome bonuses and free bets
Before betting at all, you have to register with a sports betting provider such as Betway, Bet365, or BetVictor. Many of these bookmakers offer new customers a welcome bonus that gives you a free bet after you place a first bet. The free bet is usually double, triple, or sometimes even quadruple the amount of the first bet. This means that if you bet £5 you will receive a £10 / £15 / £20 free bet.
Euro 2021 online bets: Singles, Accumulators, and Multiple Bets
A single bet, as the name suggests, is a single bet on a single market or outcome. The single bet odds multiplied by the stake will show the potential returns. Profit depends on a single rate and on a single game, so the single bet is less risky and brings a profit according to the stake. You can have multiple single bets on one bet slip.
With an accumulator bet, several bets and sometimes different betting markets with different odds are placed on one betting slip. The total odds of the betting slip are calculated by multiplying the bets placed. Accumulators have higher potential profits but also higher risk, as all markets need to win for the bet to win.
For example, if I place six single bets of £1 each on each of the Euro 2021 group winners, my potential returns are £9.48. If I place a £6 accumulator on the same outcomes, my potential return is £85.92.
System or Combination Bets
A combination bet or system bet is like a multiple selection bet, like an accumulator, but the different selections are combined into different betting permutations. The difference is that the profit is calculated from many possible combinations and the betting slip is not necessarily considered lost as soon as a result is wrong.
Using the same example as above, with six selections on the betting slip, the following combinations are possible:
- 6x single bets
- 15x double bets (two correct results already lead to a profit)
- 20x trebles (three correct results lead to a profit)
- 1x Lucky 63 (A Lucky 63 is a six-selection bet consisting of 63 bets: six singles, 15 doubles, 20 trebles, 15 four-folds, six five-folds and one six-fold)
- 15x four-fold bets
- 6x five-fold bets
- 1x Heinz bet (The Heinz bet is a six-selection bet consisting of 57 bets: 15 doubles, 20 trebles, 15 four-folds, six five-folds and a one six-fold)
