With the postponed Euro 2020 Championship only a couple of months away we thought it would be a good idea to look at the different types of bets you can place on the competition. This guide takes a look at Over/Under Betting.
Over/Under betting, sometimes known as points betting or totals, is where a bettor will bet on the number of points scored in the game. Unlike a correct score bet, you do not have the get the score exactly right, you are just predicting whether it will be lower or higher than a certain number. Over/under betting is one of the most popular betting options at bookmakers around the world as punters generally have a good idea of which games will be high scoring based on team form and previous matches.
With Over/under betting, it does not matter who wins the game, only that the right number of points are scored. This makes it an excellent betting option for games where you’re not sure who will come out on top. Games between two strong sides are usually low scoring, particularly if it is a cup final. If it’s a game between two teams with suspect defence, however, you’re better off predicting a large number of goals. Before you start looking for over/under Euro 2021 odds, take a look at our full guide below to make sure you make the most of these bets.

How are Over/Under Bets Used
With over/under bets, you are predicting the total number of points scored during the game. The bookmaker will usually list several totals, and you can choose under or over on whichever you want. In football, you will usually see under/over 0.5, 1.5, 2.5, 3.5 goals. Some sites will offer further options, though generally, these have much longer odds.
As an example, you might see Euro 2021 odds for England vs Croatia with over/under betting available. The selection looks like this:
In this case, if you bet on over 0.5 goals, you will win your bet as long as a goal is scored during the game. The only way you will lose is if the game is a 0-0 draw. If you bet on under 0.5 goals, the only way to win your bet is if the game ends 0-0.
How to Make the Most of Over/Under Betting
Now you know what points total betting is, you are ready to start choosing your bets. Before you risk your money on any bets, however, it is a good idea to go over some basic strategy. Here are some Euro 2020 betting tips specifically for over/under betting:
Choose a site with good odds – There are loads of great online sportsbooks out there, and a lot of them use different odds, especially for markets such as over/under betting. Look around a few different sites before placing your bet, making sure you are getting the best odds around.
Base your bet around the form and previous matches of the two sides. With any type of sports bet, it is important to do your research. When you are betting on over/under, it is fairly straightforward to make a prediction based on the current form of the two sides. See how many goals on average are scored during matches between them and whether one side is in better form than the other.
Use live betting to make better predictions – If you are unsure about your prediction, you can always wait until the match is in play to make your bet. Most sites offer live betting, letting you place bets while you watch the match. You can wait until late in the game to decide which over/under selection is more likely.
